In my kitchen, utensils in hand and recipe in mind, I can step out of this productivity-and-efficiency-driven world and into my own, where my multi-tasking habits don’t weigh me down. ![]() I just embrace time differently when the passing of it pertains to steps in a recipe. “Time slows down” isn’t it either - I almost always have at least one timer going, reminding in a pet-peeve-ish way that time is moving at the same speed it always does. They just don’t get to me when I have my apron on and a recipe in front of me. “Nothing else matters” isn’t it - things outside my kitchen certainly matter, right now especially. ![]() Yeah, I usually end up grabbing it an hour later to photograph whatever I made, but that’s beside the point. I hit the “Do Not Disturb” icon on my phone and toss it somewhere far, far away. One of the rare moments throughout the day I focus on one thing - just one - is when I’m in the kitchen cooking.
